The
region of Bairrada is more near the littoral, between Vouga
and Mondego, west of Buçaco/Caramulo and which name comes
from its soils' nature - the clay (barro).
The
red wines, fully coloured, a ballanced alcoholic degree, make
good stocks that get better with aging, pointing out the caves
Aliança, Real Cª Velha, Sogrape, Luis Pato, among so many
good wines in the region.
The
characteristical whites are the sparkling-wines, and the most
popular the foamy wines.
Bairrada
can also be esteemed as a gastronomical region, wherw sucking-pig
or "chanfana" (tavern food), "wet" by
the sparkling or foamy wines are well known from North to
South.
The
Oenophilist Fraternity from Bairrada seeks to give prestige
to this region wines.
