The great ambassador of Portuguese wines, the most
celebrated generous wine in the World, produced at the hillsides
of Douro River, county of Mesão Frio.
Porto-wine
is a fortified wine produced in Douro's delimited region that
by its high quality and ripeness has the privilege of being
called generous.
So
as to obtain always a high standard quality, it is controlesd
by the I.V.P., Vinho do Porto Institute.
The
Port's alcoholic degree range from 19º to 22º.
Among
the special kinds of Port, is the vintage (news). A Port of
only one vintage (grape-gathering), produced in a recognized
quality year, re-dyed and dense, exceptional characteristics,
with very fine scent and taste and to which is given the right
to the
denomination and respective date, by the I.V.P. To some experts
maybe the year of 1912 has been the best vintage this century.
The
Vinho do Porto Fraternity, founded in 1982, defends the prestige
of such a famous wine.
