A
wine produced in the delimited region that ranges the North-East
of Portugal (districts of Viana do Castelo and Braga and part
of Porto, Aveiro and Viseu), being the most famous the Alvarinho,
which is put into bottles at the source,in several farms and
palaces, like Palácio da Brejoeira or Adega Cooperativa de
Monção.
There
are another famous wines such as Quinta da Aveleda, Adega
Cooperativa de Ponte Lima, Ponte da Barca, Quinta da Capela,
Gatão.
The white Vinho Verde is light, fruity, dry or delicate, with
refreshing piquancy, excellent to go with fish or shellfish,
and it´s the most commercialized out of the region.
The larger quantity produced, belongs to the red green wines
which is the drink of local population. With a rich colour
and plenty bood-red spume, an alcoholic degree between 8º
and 12º, refreshing, it must be drank on its way out of the
barrel.
It looses quality when bottled. It goes really well with the
excellentlocal food,
like lamprey (catfish), codfish or pork.
From green wines are produced excellent brandies, husk
and vinics.
